"Many hands make light the work." Engaging in each other's Alaskan homesteading projects not only builds essential skills and fosters community support but also strengthens individual homesteads. This collaboration brings us all closer to achieving food security for every Alaskan. Whether it's raising a high tunnel, stacking firewood, mending fences, or handling butchering day, having extra hands truly enhances our success and enjoyment of the process.

It all started for us when a group of five families involved in Alaskan homesteading decided to help one another prepare for winter by dedicating one day for each family to receive the support of the others. We mowed lawns, logged trees, butchered chickens, organized a garage, and cleaned up high tunnels for the season. Where someone lacked the equipment for the job, others brought their own tools and skills to accomplish the task, exemplifying the spirit of community support. Small children and teens were also engaged in these activities. Through the process, we not only enhanced our relationships but also alleviated each other's stress over those long winterization to-do lists, ultimately contributing to our food security.

We want to connect you with others in your area who share an interest in Alaskan homesteading and work parties. Please email a description of your needs or the type of community support you are seeking. We will match you with other families nearby who possess the skills and willingness to assist. In return, you will have the chance to help your neighbors, contributing to our shared goal of enhancing food security in the community.
